Filmmaker Neeraj Pandey appears to have alluded to a potential appearance by former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly in the upcoming Kwakee: The Bengal Chapter Netflix series.
A member of the media questioned Pandey about the rumors that Ganguly will be appearing in the crime thriller during the trailer releasing ceremony in Kolkata on Wednesday. Despite his lack of words, Pandey laughed and said, “As far as Sourav is concerned… keep looking.”
The series’ creator, Neeraj Pandey, also revealed that he chose Kolkata as the setting for this new episode because of his own ties to the city.
“I was born and brought up in Kolkata. This played an important role in me choosing Kolkata for the second chapter in the series… there was a personal bias,” he said.
The series, directed by Debatma Mandal and Tushar Kanti Ray, is a follow-up to Pandey’s 2022 show Khakee: The Bihar Chapter. Set in Kolkata in the early 2000s, it tells the story of an IPS officer fighting crime, corruption, and political power.
Regarding the trailer, it depicts the officer’s hardships as he dared to question the influential people in charge of the system. Neeraj Pandey, Debatma Mandal, and Samrat Chakraborty co-wrote the show.
Bengali movie stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jeet, Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and Saswata Chatterjee are among the ensemble cast of the series. Additionally, the show is the first Hindi drama with a cast that is exclusively Bengali.
On March 20, Khakee: The Bengal Chapter will make its Netflix debut.
